JBS sets out its vision for sustainability at the Brazilian Embassy’s AgriSustainability Talks conference

Márcio Nappo, Sustainability Director of JBS, was recently pleased to address the latest edition of the AgriSustainability Talks webinar events hosted by the Embassy of Brazil in London.

Acknowledging the task the agri-food industry faces as we head towards the prospect of feeding 10 billion people across the world by 2050 – including the subsequent significant increase in demand for animal protein – Marcio outlined JBS’ pledge to meet these challenges by continuing to provide high-quality and sustainably produced food. As the world transitions to feeding more people by using fewer resources, JBS remains at the forefront of the adoption of more efficient production technologies and innovation.

Reiterating JBS’ commitment to uphold strict responsible procurement policies, Marcio commented that: “currently, we successfully monitor 100% of our direct cattle suppliers with a system that is considered one of the best and most sophisticated in the world. We also recently launched the JBS Green Platform that will guarantee the environmental compliance of our entire cattle supply chain by 2025. This new platform will allow due diligence monitoring to be extended to other indirect links in our cattle supply chain to cover suppliers we don’t have a direct relationship with but who deal with our direct suppliers.”

In addition to the innovative policies that make up JBS’ flagship Together of the Amazon policy, the Group continues to dedicate itself to the pursuit of sustainability across all of our business operations. As the largest meat processing company in the world, our dedicated Sustainability Committee works to constantly minimize socio-environmental risk. In the last year we have invested R$1.90 billion (USD$368m) on global sustainability-related initiatives. JBS believes that the beef and livestock industry has an important role to play in helping to tackle the climate crisis and achieving a carbon neutral future. Enhancing the livestock industry can deliver biodiversity, socio-economic development, sustainable livelihoods, and food security goals. JBS remains steadfast in its commitment to being amongst the drivers of this.
