JBS Global UK’s Managing Director Nick Sherwood reflects on COP26

This year’s UN Climate Summit marks a pivotal moment in global efforts to save our planet from the increasing risks of climate change. At JBS, environmental sustainabillity is at the forefront of our agenda as a global food business.
Now more than ever, encouraging climate-smart food production is vital for food makers, retailers and shoppers alike. As a global food company, JBS is committed to adapting to the changes needed to align with the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We believe that smart and sustainable food systems can and will be a part of the solution to the climate crisis – that’s why we have pledged to reach net-zero emissions by 2040 and are charting our path towards carbon neutral production. As such, it is defining to see that JBS is among the 10 major food companies in the world to come together to take action on supply chains, building a roadmap towards COP27 consistent with a 1.5 degree pathway. The goal is to identify solutions to make progress in eliminating deforestation in our supply chain and reduce our carbon footprint – a goal which we are well on our way to achieveing through environmental initiatives such as the fire monitoring system in the Pantanal region and our efforts in reducing methane emissions from cattle farming.
As we face both climate and food security crises , it was great to see global leaders coming together in Glasgow to bring positive and innovative solutions to the climate crisis. By working together with world leaders and industries to develop a roadmap for the sector, we are confident that JBS can spearhead the sustainable transformation of global food systems.
