JBS finances the operation of telehealth outposts in remote Amazon communities

The JBS social responsibility program, Fazer o Bem Faz Bem, has donated R$ 2 million towards healthcare initiatives in the Amazon. Around 5,600 people living without easy access to urban health services are benefitting from the “SUS na Floresta” (Public Health in the Forest) project coordinated by the Sustainable Amazon Foundation (FAS).

“Besides providing healthcare services to the population at this difficult time, the project is crafting a permanent legacy for the communities that have limited access to healthcare services. This donation enables us to continue adapting the healthcare system to better suit the needs of those living in the region”, notes Fernando Meller, the program manager.

The resources donated by the Fazer o Bem Faz Bem program were channelled into operating 62 telehealth outposts for rural communities in the Amazon, servicing 25 municipalities. The donation also covers the training of healthcare providers through remote training courses taught by 150 instructors specialising in healthcare, hygiene and food safety.

In addition, the resources will facilitate access to urgent and emergency transport services in the region by providing eight thousand litres of fuel for emergency motorboat ambulance transportation. “Donations like those of JBS are important because they support three fundamental fronts in the healthcare service: installing and operating telehealth outposts, facilitating access to transport, and training healthcare professionals”, remarks Luiz Castro, coordinator of the SUS na Floresta program.
